Garden time again!

Now that we are approaching the season of "not-as-hot", it is time to get the garden in. We elected to make more Mel's Mix since the boxes were low.

First we opened the composts and peat moss (ok, so really my sweetie opened them)
See the nice big pile to stir up with a shovel?

After stirring, add in the vermiculite. This makes the Mel's Mix sparkle, but I don't think that is the main purpose, just an added benefit. It holds the water in. If you buy a small bag at the local home improvement store it will be about $3 for 8 oz. If you go to your local nursery, it will be much cheaper. We got this 3.5 cubic foot bag for $13.

Here is the garden full and ready to nourish our plants for another season.

These are our little herb plants. When my Sweetie pulled the old tomato tree out of the front right square, he uncovered the basil plant on the right side in row 2. TONS of fresh basil...smells wonderful. I hated to waste it so I called the neighborhood professor who decided to make spaghetti for dinner to utilize the fresh basil. I don't feel bad when I share :)

This is the bell pepper plant that went in in March. As it has gotten bigger the peppers have too.

Meet one of the grapevines. We have a seedless red and a green. They are both very happy.

This is the okra. I call it Heirloom Okra since it is from seeds my Father in law had years and years ago. I had no idea the flowers were so pretty. The bees are very fond of them as well. We have been getting about 8-12 okra every day. Last night my sweetie made some yummy vegetables with the okra. The boys named it "Hella good vegetable fry" Sadly, there were no leftovers for lunch.

If you are in the neighborhood and would like some okra to try, just let me know.
