Football Fun

Saturday our undefeated team played the only other undefeated team in the league. We knew it would be a close game.
In the first quarter, our team got a goal. Touchdown, whatever, I have people reading over my shoulder because the game details are a little fuzzy to me. I had a 6 year old wrapped in a blanket on the bleachers hiding from the giant grasshoppers wit 3"-4" bodies. I wanted to hide too but wouldn't fit under her blanket. They were nasty!Second quarter we got another goal but there was a flag so at half time it was 6-0.
Third quarter the other team got the ball to their 3 yard line and after their turns didn't make it so we got a turn. Our first turn didn't work out and they had a crazy kid smacking himself in the head and yelling and jumping all over the place during the squat. He was annoying. I can only imagine what our squatter kids thought of him. Our second turn we got the ball and he ran it in for a 97 yard touchdown. It was pretty fun to watch as his lead got bigger over the chasers from the other team. The noise from the stands was deafening. There was a flag on that play, and the refs had a little meeting and then waved their arms around and everyone started booing on our side. Then our coach started waving his arms at the crowd making the goal sign and then the refs waved their arms and they put our 6 points on the scoreboard. The refs made the call, but waved the wrong way because we didn't get penalized so we got our extra point and then when the other team got the ball they got the penalty then. It seemed after this point in the game, the refs were not happy with our boys at all.

My boy, the very cute 82, got to tackle a guy during this quarter. He was the only player anywhere near their guy and we watched as he started about 10 yards behind their guy and quickly closed the gap when he "turned on the speed". He threw his arms around the guy and down they went. Too bad I couldn't get that on film. (That is a subtle present idea for anyone in a gift giving mood :) A Nikon D80 would be very nice to find under the tree!) We got the ball, and 82 got put in to squat and then run to catch, but they had a guy that did a diving move right in front of the thrower and catch the ball right after it left his hands. Good try to 82 though. They got the ball and were running for the goal and three of our guys went to tackle him and 82 swung his long arms out and they accidently brushed the facemask of the guy with the ball...flags went up and it was a 15 yard penalty. Now during the first quarter, they had a guy grab onto a facemask on our team and jerk the guy to the ground and they only got a 5 yard penalty, why our 82 got a 15 yard I don't know. They didn't get a goal.
Sometime at the end of third quarter or beginning of 4th, a man from the other team got thrown out of the game/stadium. I am not sure if he was a coach or an older man that assaulted one of our coaches for baby pee wee team three weeks earlier. The ejected man walked through our coaches and then turned around and started going after them yelling and waving his arms around (maybe it was the parent of the annoying kid from above???). He finally started leaving the stadium while the crowd booed him. He was at the end of the bleachers and one of the other coaches got tossed out so he walked across the field FAR away from our coaches and left. The game started playing again, and the next play they got rid of/benched/ejected our kid for "tackling too hard". It is tackle football so once again the logic missed me there.
82 had an interception, blocked 2 passes and gained a couple yards with another interception in the fourth quarter.
We won the game 26 to 0. It was a 2 and a half hour game ending at 1030 Saturday night. 82 was pretty sore the next day...in a good way.
