Zoo Lights.....
a family tradition
Going to Zoo Lights at the Phoenix Zoo is one of our favorite activities over the Christmas Holidays. This season, we attended on the last weekend. It was well worth the wait! We always get fresh kettle corn, and cotton candy and eat it while we watch the
dancing trees. This video doesn't do the show justice, but it was all I could find :)
The pictures don't always turn out great. Even though this one is blurry, it shows how much the kids have grown over the last year.
This is "big blue" a very tall tree with 19.500 LED lights on it. We noticed some were out and wondered why until oldest son saw a plug that was undone. He plugged it in and voila! More lights! (There are so many you only noticed part were out if you were REALLY close!
We also got to experience the new Stingray Bay! This was so cool!!!!!!
They are in a pool that is about 2 feet deep. If you want to touch them, you must scrub up to your elbows when you enter.

They are used to being touched on the bottom because that is where their mouths are and it is easier for them to eat. Since they hadn't been fed in a while, they would swim over your open hand and you could feel suction while they tested to see if you had food for them. They felt velvety soft. You have to be very careful touching the tops of them since they get scratched very easily.

For some reason I was the only brave one in the family. We were fortunate enough to be there for feeding time. Guess who gets to feed them?????

You got it! They passed out little cups of authentic sea food. I didn't know I had to touch dead whole fish with skin and bones and all that ick, cut in half so you could get a good view.

Hold the food in your palm and wait for them to swim by and suck it up....

It was sort of like feeding the ducks, once them smell it, they all come swimming....

I definately want to go back!
Everyone had fun and is tired. It is supposed to freeze tonite so I will go cover up the garden quick. I think my corn is done. I will try to save my tomatoes and zucchini though!

Hmmmm, I bet that Stingrays are quieter and shed less than shelties and golden retrievers... Two of them are wrestling on my bed at the moment. Oopw - Wilma fell off the bed :o)
You're getting freezes at night? We're sweltering up here - even The Husband, who is always freezing due to his circulation, was wearing a t-shirt yesterday. Today is cold and rainy - it's way down to 46 degrees! So much for the snowplow we bought last year!
